Pine Forest Education & Learning Center (PFELC) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Wilmington, North Carolina. This policy explains what information we collect through our website, why we collect it, and what we do with it.
We keep this short and specific on purpose. We are a small, volunteer-led organization. We collect very little, and we do not sell anything about you to anyone.
Contact form. Our Get Involved page has a form that asks for your name, email address, and a message. Your email address is required so we can reply. This information is stored in our website database and sent to our organizational email inbox.
Comments. If you leave a comment on a post, WordPress records the name and email address you enter, your comment, your IP address, and your browser user agent string. This is standard WordPress behavior and helps us detect spam.
Email correspondence. If you email us directly, we keep that correspondence so we can respond and maintain a record of the conversation.
Server and security logs. Like nearly all websites, our web server records IP addresses, browser types, pages requested, and timestamps. Our security software uses this information to identify and block malicious activity such as repeated failed login attempts.
Cookies. Our website uses functional cookies needed for the site to work, including for caching and for comment forms that remember your details. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking pixels.
A few parts of our site rely on outside services. When you interact with them, those companies receive information directly and their own privacy policies apply.
Givebutter. All donations and ticket purchases are processed on Givebutter, not on our website. When you click a donate or ticket button, you leave our site. We never see or store your payment card details. Givebutter provides us with donor names, email addresses, and donation amounts so we can acknowledge gifts and meet our recordkeeping obligations.
Vimeo. Films on our Home and Gallery pages are hosted by Vimeo. Loading or playing a video allows Vimeo to collect information about that playback.
Adobe Fonts. Our typefaces are served by Adobe Fonts, which means your browser requests those files from Adobe when you visit.
Email delivery. Messages our website sends, such as contact form notifications, are delivered through a third-party email service.
We do not currently run Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics or advertising tracker on this website. If that changes, we will update this policy.
We use what we collect to respond to your messages, acknowledge and record donations, send information you have asked for, publish and moderate comments, keep the website secure and working, and understand and improve our programming.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
We share information only with the service providers described above, who process it on our behalf, and when we are required to by law or to protect the rights and safety of our organization or others.
Board members and authorized volunteers may access donor and contact records in the course of carrying out the organization’s work.
Contact form submissions and email correspondence are retained as long as they are useful to our work, and are reviewed periodically. Donation records are retained as long as required for nonprofit financial recordkeeping and reporting. Comments and their associated data are retained indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognized and approved automatically. Security logs are retained for a limited period on a rolling basis.
You can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, correct anything inaccurate, delete your information where we are not required to keep it, or remove a comment you have posted. You can also unsubscribe from any email list at any time using the link in the message.

Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies. Doing so may affect how parts of the site work.
Our website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
We use security software, encrypted connections, and access controls to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Our website links to partner organizations, Pine Forest Cemetery, and Givebutter. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of sites we do not operate. We encourage you to read their policies.
We will update this policy when our practices change, and will revise the date at the top of the page. Significant changes will be noted on this page.
